How does this check work?

The basic text check looks for known patterns on your device. It can miss new wording or misunderstand context. A photo check or optional closer look uses AI. Neither check verifies a sender or guarantees an answer.

The guide explains common patterns. Selecting a topic does not mean your message is a scam. Before acting on money, accounts, or health, check with a trusted contact.

About the Free Scam Checker

What is the Free Scam Checker?

The HIP Senior Free Scam Checker helps older adults and families recognize scam warning signs in suspicious texts, emails, phone calls, and letters. It provides guidance on what to do next.

How do I check something suspicious?

Describe what happened, upload a screenshot or photo, or choose a scam category. On a smartphone or tablet, use Take a picture to photograph a letter or message.

Is the Scam Checker free?

Yes. The tool is free to use and does not require an account.

Does the tool guarantee something is safe?

No. It identifies warning signs and provides guidance. It does not verify every sender or guarantee a message or business is safe.

Do sponsors influence the results?

No. Sponsored banners help support the tool. They do not influence scam results or safety guidance.

A friendly note: This tool is here to help you spot scams, and it is built to be safe for you to use.

The scam guide (the categories, the warnings, and the steps) provides general educational guidance. It explains warning signs and ways to check, and nothing you type there is saved or sent anywhere. There is no sign-up, and it never asks for your personal information. It covers many common scams that target older adults, all in one place.

The optional “closer look” is different, and we want you to know exactly how. If you choose to paste a message or add a photo and ask for a closer look, that text or picture is sent securely to be read by a computer helper, so it can point out warning signs. The AI provider processes the information under its own policies. Cover or remove private details first. You can use the basic text check and the guide without this feature.

Please remember: the closer look gives you an opinion, not a guarantee. It can miss things, and it can be wrong. A careful scam can look ordinary, and an honest message can look strange. So treat it as a helpful second pair of eyes, never as the final word.
